I was asked to do a write up on how the Speedometer drive works on the King Midget. I am presently working on the front end of my 1967 King Midget so I thought this was a good time to take pictures and show what these parts look like. The Speedometer is driven off the left front wheel and all the parts on the left are a little different than on the right side.
LEFT SIDE FRONT WHEEL(Photo 1)
1. Inside seal and bearing
2. Outside bearing
3. Outside bearing nut which is held in place with two screws
4. The Speedometer Cable Rod comes through the axle and sticks out just a little and has a hole at the end(Photo 2)
5. The Wire Clip that goes through the hole in the Speedometer cable and goes into the cap
6. The inside of the left front bearing cap is different than the right front bearing cap – it has an insert that connects to the wire clip that then turns the Speedometer Cable.(Photo 3 and Photo 4)
RIGHT SIDE FRONT WHEEL (Photo 5)
The right side is almost the same accept that the bearing nut is secured with a cotter key and the bearing cap is just a plain standard cap.
